Collections, exhibitions and an enchanted garden to narrate the floriculture world, to remember the connection between Sanremo and floriculture,
Located in the park of Villa Ormond, it develops on two venues hosting exhibitions and activities: the Winter building, permanent location, and the Prediali liberty greenhouse, pavilion for the temporary exhibitions.
The idea of Floriseum was born from the donation that the widow of the carnations hybridizer Ermanno Moro made to the City of Sanremo: the entire collection of documents of her husband was the first nucleus of the Museum and is now located on the upper floor of Winter building.Welcoming the visitors on the ground floor, there is an introductory movie about Sanremo and the floriculture tradition, as well as a multimedia totem depicting the botanical species of the Villa Ormond park and some informational displays about the activities of the several research institutes participating in the center activities.
Floriseum is in fact led by a scientific committee dealing with exhibitions and events whose members, among the others, are the City of Sanremo, departments and Centers of the University of Genoa, but also the Experimental Institute for the Floriculture of Sanremo (CREA-FSO) and the Regional Institute for the Floriculture (IRF).
After the spring inauguration that provoked the curiosity of Sanremes and tourists, 2017 has displayed an exhibition on roses, one on the succulent plants,the exhibitions on the non-native“alien” plants and those described on the novels by Emilio Salgari.
A world to discover in and out of the pavilions, where the Villa Ormond park extends, among the 8new entries of the Great Italian Gardens (120 in total those selected by the network in the Belpaese),with its rare species, the wonderful ficus and the large hibiscus bushes. Not only botany in the Floriseum: in winter the Moro collection should be also flanked by a series of reed flower baskets,formerly used for the transport and packaging of flowers, another piece of that flower culture that made Sanremo so famous in the world.
