If you are looking for a coastal destination where you can have fun and chill with your family, Diano Marina is for you. A seaside resort that obtained the Blue Flag in 2020, it shows a long sandy beach coastline of over 3,500 meters and shallow waters, suitable for children and water aerobics courses, bathing establishments where you can indulge in swimming, sun, surfing, canoeing, and accommodations for every choice. A sea with Caribbean colours thanks to the frequent exchange of water as this is the Ligurian Sea where with the Pelagos Sanctuary we find a very high frequency of cetacean sighting.
Within the Riviera dei Fiori, we could say that Diano Marina is the venue specialized in the reception for summer holidays. In Roman times, Diano Marina was located in the so-called “Lucus Bormani”, a parking station along the road that connected the Po Valley and Gaul. The name refers to the ancient cults of the forest, which were replaced by the Latin one of the goddess Diana, whose reverberation can be found in many toponyms of the Dianese area.
The history of Diano Marina is told in the local Civic Museum, where the story of the dolia recovered from the Roman ship sunk in front of the coast in the first century AD is narrated. Destroyed in 1887 by a serious earthquake, the current Diano Marina has a modern and pedestrian urban structure, which makes the city one of the most well-known and popular tourist destinations, especially by visitors from northern Europe, with a rich and varied calendar of events.
In summer, the cosy pedestrian area in the city centre is crowded during the day by people going to the beach and buying food for lunch or dinner, while during the evening it becomes the centre of the local nightlife for a walk in complete relaxation and fun.
Many shops are open with schedules tailored to customers’ needs. Among the most significant events, we point out: the “Dianese Carnival”, a parade of carnival floats made by the historical Association “Famia Dianese”, the Corpus Domini Infiorata (flower festival) realized along the main streets of the city town, where illustrations and religious characters are made by spreading beyond a million coloured petals; “Aromatica, profumi e sapori della Riviera Ligure”, an event dedicated to aromatic herbs and products of the soil, with cooking shows, street food, exhibitions, guided tours in the inland to taste the best of the local production; the Windfestival – the biggest Italian Expo dedicated to sea and wind Action Sports.
Diano Marina, a young and dynamic city is waiting for you to welcome you to the fullest.
