A welcome to spring amongst the scents and colours of the flowers which have made the Riviera so famous and given it the name of Riviera dei Fiori. As occurs every year once the lights have gone out on the Song Festival, Sanremo gears up to host another traditional occasion, the parade of the Floral Floats. Each edition has a different theme for building these magnificent creations which are actual works of art.
This year’s edition is scheduled for 13th March and will ensure we fly on the wings of “Once upon a time…the magical world of fairy-tales”. A theme which the younger viewers will greatly enjoy, but one which will also enchant the thousands of visitors who flock to Sanremo with organised coaches from all over Italy. This event in actual fact lasts all the weekend, as the Saturday is devoted to the musical bands with their “show on the road”, which knows how to make us laugh and to move us at the same time.
Sunday is the great day. All the participating teams have worked all night in the bus depot in Piazza Colombo in order to place the thousands of flowers in their four-wheeled works of art. Their creations leave from the bus depot to parade in front of the admiring eyes of the visitors stacked along the route and in the stands (in addition to all the viewers of Rai Television). An expert jury will nominate the winners. Who will take over the sceptre from last year’s winner, Mafalda from Santo Stefano al Mare?
