53rd Salone Internazionale dell’Umorismo in Bordighera

Art & Culture, What to do

From June 22nd to July 23rd, the traditional International Humor Show in Bordighera will be back, a conference of authors of drawings and books dedicated to humor, a cultural reference point in the field.

The program includes the inauguration on June 22nd, the Salone days from June 22nd to 24th, and the award ceremony on the evening of the 25th. The exhibition will continue until July 23rd, open every day from 6 PM to 10 PM.

This year’s poster is a Quino’s illustration dedicated to the sea as a means of communication; the subtle irony of the castaway who no longer has a place to send his message in a bottle kindly emphasizes loneliness.

Continuing the initiative from 2022 with Peynet, the “Homage to an Author” section is dedicated to Joachim Lavado Tejon, known as Quino, the creator of the famous Mafalda. The series of exhibited works will allow us to admire various stages of the great master’s work. Some animated short films directed by the same author and recently restored will also be shown.

This year, the tradition of awards for the best theme-related drawings is revived: Golden Palm, Golden Date, and Silver Date. Various personalities will receive the Golden Palm branch and other awards in the Salone’s tradition.

The theme is SEA, understood in its broadest sense: a source of poetic inspiration, journeys, geographical discoveries, globalization, dramas, and leisure.

In short, as De André said: The sea is a unique element that separates and unites. In its role of separating, it stimulates our imagination, but when it unites, it puts us in constant contact with reality.

Around 400 artists from 71 countries have entered the competition, submitting nearly 800 drawings. Of these, approximately 180 will be exhibited, and 3 of them will be awarded.

An unexpected and high-quality result where the environmental aspect is of primary concern to the majority of humorists from all countries.

The Honor Panel will also be present at the Salon, an exhibition reserved for the winners of the Golden Palm, artists who have made history and brought glory to the Salon over the years. Peynet, Furrer, Fazlic, Cavallo, Mordillo…

The events will be held at the former Anglican Church in Via 1° Maggio, at the Music Kiosk on Lungomare Argentina, and at the Olimpia cinema in Via Cadorna.
