From a qualitative point of view, the Club Tenco songwriter’s award festival is definitely the most important event in the city of Sanremo, mainly known internationally because of its Italian Song Festival. We owe the idea of creating a new event entitled to the great songwriter to Amilcare Rambaldi in 1974.
A glorious history that this year will celebrate its 40th edition at the Teatro Ariston from 20th to 22nd October. The board, working to put together the cast, has already announced the 2016 Tenco Awards (the Plates instead will be awarded by a jury of more than 200 journalists). They will go to Stan Ridgway, Otello Profazio and Sergio Staino.
“It is the fortieth anniversary of the event – says the artistic director Enrico De Angelis – and next January it will be fifty years since the death of Tenco, whose songs will be interpreted in their own way by numerous singers, original interpretations, designed especially for us.
The originality lies in the fact that only artists born after that fateful 27th January 1967 will testify how subsequent generations have adopted Tenco’s legacy. We trust that this event will also become a television program, which the RAI should broadcast during the anniversary month. In addition to the three Tenco Award-winners, the cast will be completed by two other foreign artists of international stature: at the moment Bombino has been confirmed, a Tuareg forced into exile in Algeria and Burkina Faso”. There will certainly be, as always, Luciano Barbieri’s mythical “Infermeria (Infirmary)”, where the songwriters and the experts will be able to “treat” themselves with the Rossese wine from Dolceacqua. This also is the Tenco. And has been for 40 years!
